South Coast Boat Series - Bulli

3 February 2020

South Coast Boat Series - Bulli  wrap up!

Well what a great day for the Mighty blue and gold down at Bulli carnival today. The sun was out the surf was pumping nicely and everytime I turned around North Cronulla were coming home first.

We will start with the juniors, the u/19 girls continued to impress and are getting better with every carnival, today getting second on pointscore. The u/19 men we had the Bungholes and Brookes juniors. After winning a spot in the state team last week the Bungholes went every round undefeated and won the final aswell. Brookes juniors with super sub Hugo Langton filling in pushed the bungholes in the earlier rounds but unfortunately they rowed with too much power off the beach in the final and broke an oar after 2 strokes. Can't believe Bof didn't check that oar for you guys.

23 girls saw Blueys and Bofs girls trade wins in the heats but it was Bofs girls who smashed it in the final winning with a little bit of sideways action across the line and maybe cracking an oar that the junior boys used in the next final. Congrates to blueys girls aswell making there first final.

23 Boys crews all performed well. Jeffs boys made it through to the final getting a well deserved 4th. Keep turning up to training and working hard and you boys will make more finals

Purdies boys doubled up rowing in A's aswell more on that later. In the 23 final they rowed well to come in in 3rd but obviously had other things on there minds.

Micks Young guns also rowed 2 divisions today rowing reggies aswell. It has been great to watch these guys in there 1st year of 23s really step up and today they did that often racing back to back races which must of worked for them as they won the final.

Reggies with most of our other reserve crews still on there Christmas break or injured or both or in retirement it was left to Daves reserves(or Patseys or what ever else they call them selves) to fly the flag for North Cronulla. From the harder end of the beach the boys rowed out of there skins to win by a wave, great work boys and Dave.

Open Womans division saw Blueys girls go head to head with Funkys u/23 girls over 3 very tight races. Nothing separated the crews by much with Blueys winning the pointscore and Funkys girls 1 point behind in 2nd, no wonder Funkys crew has been selected for the Aussie team. Thanks to Ellie streater for stepping up and rowing with Blueys girls and also to Greta Sohler rowing in both Blueys 23s and with Funkys girls

Now the Open men, the big boys. Not sure how Purds was feeling as both his A crew and his colt crew made the final. Both crews had shown some good form early in the day but the final was going to be tough up against Bulli(the Australian crew) on there home beach with there home crowd and there home officials and there home first aid people. Funky had been quietly steering the colts to some good results and they could be a chance aswell. Gecko bet 2 cases of beer against bulli for who would win, not sure who that would motivate more Purds or Shane the bulli sweep. But in the end it was Funky and the colts who came home the strongest and won over the narrowest of margins from Purds As in 2nd with bulli some where out the back off to get the beers. Great row by the colts and also a great row by purds As from the dreaded alley1.

Special mentions to Conner Dillon filling in with Jeffs boys, and Ellie streater filling in with blueys open womans.

Greta sohler, Micks young guns and Purds colts for doubling up and rowing 2 divisions.

But MVR(most valuable rower) today goes to Hugo who rowed in 3 divisions and was last seen asleep under the boat in the carpark.

Cheers Blue dog, H dog, C dog, E dog and G dog (blueys 23girls)
